Brownes connection with North Perth
The Brownes family has been long been associated with North Perth. In 1915 Browne purchased the wholesale Dairy Farmers Co-operative on Charles Street, North Perth “Brownes Dairy”. Here, milk was purchased from farmers and sold to retailers and consumers. Early milk delivery methods included horse and cart, or milk drums on a wooden yoke across a delivery boy’s shoulders! In the 1940s, a modern milk pasteurization and bottling plant was opened on the North Perth site, and Brownes begins to produce pasteurized milk in bottles for the first time in WA under the name “Golden Seal”.
The Brownes family lived nearby in Albert St.
